Though it would be nice to have the finish on top of the silver eel hill, make it easier for the judges :)

Here's the map for the race.[image]
Can someone please tell me where you turn left after the start?
Is it
(a) the second yellow road, past Aghadolgan, with the PH (public house) at the corner
or
(b) the yellow road marked 'elm hill'
or
(c) the red road, marked with a 54 at the corner?

I presume it then goes down the B156 back to the start.

Great race last night -- just over the hour for ther 25 or so miles. Our group worked well together, with JC, Ray, Seamus, Brendan Ellis, Dermot, Stevie, Joe, Bob, the two Finns, and yours truly all doing turns at the front. A bit tight on the Silver Eel hill, but we got over it OK. Found the winter prep and other (secret) training coming in handy, esp. giving a wee kick out of the corners.
The escapees from scratch (DW, Mark Greer and another Maryland rider -- perhaps Drew??) got up to us on the 4th lap, but didn't scream past: we kept them in our sights. Dave was valiant, and when Greer headed up the road with wee Peter, Dave chased, and stayed out betwixt and between for half a lap or so. He was eventually reeled half-way through the last lap.
Coming up to the finish I found myself on the front, with no one wanting (or being silly enough) to ride through. I slowed a bit, knowing what was coming, but revved it up a bit too late. Didn't fail in the sprint, but might have gone from the front, because I felt good on the night.
It was a knightly gesture of Mark Greer to lead wee Peter out for the line. That's the way to encourage the young 'uns. 8-)
Well done, everybody. No mishaps, high speed, and all working well together. Well done also to the 4th group, which featured the Da, who got a basketful of points. Same again next year!! ;D

Result.

1. Peter Wilson
2. J McKeown
3. M Greer
4. D Cameron
5. H Wilson
6. C McCann
7. J Cole
8. T Mairs (Good sprint!)
9. F O'Kane
10. D Hughes

Yes it was Drew who got across from scratch with Dave and Mark. Just going into the last lap Mark jumped away and Neil Smith and I managed to get across to him before the Silver Eel climb. I even managed to do a turn or two to help Mark but holding onto him on the Silver Eel climb was very hard, Neil dropped back.

Mark and I got to the front group after the left turn on the wee drags. Super was just off the back of the group but I knew he'd get back on once the gradient changed and he got into his fav 11 sprocket.

Once we got to the front group I went to the front, at one stage I pulled out to look back and saw the chasing group so decided just to empty myself on the front. When Mark jumped near the finish I had nothing much left and they all came round me. Wee Peter had been in the second group which caught the front 3 riders well before we came on the scene. And yes Mark let him have the win which was great.

I really enjoyed the race, suffered when riding across with Mark but I was glad I was able to grimly hang on. :)

And that break in the weather was great! I see normal service has resumed this morning needless to say it was a drive in from Bangor to work. :(

I'll try and put the video of the finish up on the site tomorrow, thanks John Sloans mum for doing the video, great job and a good excuse to go to the pub for a pint afterwards and help the Maryland guys work out their top 10.

I look pretty bagged at the end but then I reckon thats the way you should finish a race else you aint been trying hard enough.

It was great to see Finn back in the field racing after his nasty crash at Cookstown and true to form he didn't miss a turn, he was up riding thru right from the word go.

Really enjoyed that race last nite, good to be back even though couldnt corner properly, felt sorry for anybody behind me on the corners. JC put me in the 3rd group, thanks JC ;D, at the start of the race ended up at the front, how did that happen, only the usual suspects doing abit of work at the front, found the pace steady enough will the hill giving abit of sting in the calfs. By the last lap was feeling the pace abit and just missed jumping on with JC and another guy on the corner who eventually caught Mark further on, got to the front on the chase but very few willing to help me out, pity that as I think you might as well bury yourself to try and catch the front group, better chance of a higher placing, anyway, coming into the finishing straight legs went to rubber and got over the line at the back of the group. Good race and was surprised the legs held up.

Great race, was off with the 3rd group and found it pretty tough (avg HR 177 for 1 hour) and was not much easier than scratch at the Maze (avg HR 181). The hill was a killer on the last lap and I'm glad that we were never caught by scratch, though well done to the guys in the break, they were flying. :P
Fantastic riding by JC who did a lot of work and deserved 7th and also well done to Supervet, I was very happy to get the sprint for 8th and can't wait to see the finish on the computer! 8-)

after last night i believe i qualify as bungee the second. duncan.heather, jimmy, took alternate turns on every rise in the road to put me and others out the back.did my best to get elaine john mc connell and the real bungee back on.easy really because they went so hard up the hills they were free wheeling down the other side.i counted 12 times i had to chase. the left hand turn of the main road had loose stones the bangor reserves wouldnt let me round it with the rest.mike brown was marshall there shouting at me to get them organised!!! if i could get to the front i would have.last lap i had the longest gap all night.then as the road flattened mark greer and jc came past.as i had been riding a tt all night i slotted on to the wheel, magic couldn't believe how easy it was to get back up with an engine in front.of course duncan took a rush of blood to the head and puts me into the grass verge at least there were no loose stones this time.by then i was so tired i couldn't return the complement.but he is in the black book.at the run in i said to mark time you were away.no knowing he had peter in mind for the win.peter reminded me of mikey knotts ijn his first race, loads of legs but would go to the front all night.every time i started to go out the back i took him with me .like brian goudy just breeze up to the rest with no effort. last place is mine until the last 100 yds that is.great to see a young lad win will spur him on to help to stay away next time. c.m.c.

Scratch was a laugh !!

So hard fatty matty could barely hold on the back.

It was a tail of the silver eel really.

First time up it the Maryland boys lined it out breathing out orifice i was, a few boys went out the back but got back on.

Second time Maurice Ruddock lined er out, Randy went to the front and it broke up going over the top, 5/6 away, but Mark short brought them back.

next time everyones fcked, Drew rides away, but everyones a bit tired then DW went away before the hill and greerso got accross to them, we tried to bring them back but it didn't really gel.

Off-course between all this the boys were well cooked no real flow to scratch and all of the open boys had a double weekend and sat at the back.

The last lap was a bit of a joke really but it hurt, even though we didn't get up, I enjoyed it, hope you did too.

The little 14 yr old who fell off did 2 laps with us, he did really well, maybe its time to move over.

Scratch.
