Weather : Fantastic considering we could've had torrential rain witht he howling cross winds.
The race was pretty savage, the 20/30 riders in scratch were taking about a minute a lap out of the 3rds, Vs and Juniors, they had 5 mins at the start.
The wind made it 'EASY' up the climbs but the rest of the circuit was run out at about 28/30mph.
Although we where brining them back I realised the race would only start when we caught them, the race so far was pretty steady, hard but steady.
Anyway that plan went out the window with about 4 laps to go, when the boys started to attack on the hills into the headwind, I was right there, knew what to do but didn't have the legs to do it. .. Mat an Paul made it into the group, but there was still alot to do before they'd cross the finnish line, esp with Adam, Gordon and Soup still up the road.
Marion caught the moment when the group broke up.
Anyway we kept it going, Stuart was probably one of the strongest left in our group and we started to ride to keep it going, it still made it hard riding, and worthwhile.
Bodies kept going out the back door and the wee guy from Ballymena kept us interested in the hill.
Point of interest on the last lap when I was up the road with a Newry man, no marshall but there were only 2 of us on the left hand turn at Annhilt what could go wrong ?, So I'm at the front put it int he 12 ready for the 30mph tailwind towards Lisburn, lean into the turn and I bounce off the Newry man, he'd forgotten where the turn was, thankfully he was solid enough, Ibounced off him he managed to stay up right an dIwent down the road a bit but stayed upright, alls well that ends well.
A good race on a hard circuit, in difficult conditions, I think I need a wee rest so might just skip next weekend.
Well done the Phoenix men, Mat just finnished behind the front group, paul in a group just behind that, met DW on the road bravely banjo'ed, Jonnie was out just training but the 3rds would've had a just as much off a hard time as anyone else. Mert was out there from time to time and Martin in his Commisaire role, well done mate.
Mert was a bit of a mystery today, sometimes I saw him sometimes I didn't

A very windy day made conditions hard.
The 1st/2nd cat bunch conceded 5mins to the 3/J/V with some very strong riders in the first group.
With most of the 1st cats in scratch and some of the 2nds in scratch working, we were taking back about 1min a lap from the 3/J/V.
We caught most of the first group towards the end of the 4th lap. Matt soon attacked on the hilly part of the circuit and dragged a group of about 10 of us away....Matt, Me, Frazer, Willie H, Paul Mulligan, Mark Greer, Denis Easton, Bo, Gary Crory all made it.
We chased on catching the remainder of the 1st group with 2 laps to go. There was then a lot of jumping around with some pretty fresh legs among the 3/J/Vs. A group went clear with about 9 in it with me and Matt chasing ina group of 6......I say chasing, but most of us were wrecked so it was a case of just tapping through to get to the finish.
Frazer won a 4-up sprint from Alastair Steele, Gary Crory then Mark Greer. There was then Paul Mulligan on his own followed by a group of 5. Matt led in our group with me on his tail.
Plenty of phoenix guys there....Mert, Andy, Stuart, Jonnie, DW and Seamus (think thats all)
Stuart seemed to be strong but missed the split....Andy too. Not sure how all the others got on.
Hard day...my HR was 168 average for the 2h40-odd mins of racing (bloody hell!!) - to put that in perspective, for Emyvale, HR was 148 average!!

Tough race i thought! - the wind was tough and made the long drag up towards the finish tough! - as others have mentioned me and andy missed the split - i just couldnt get over the hills as quick as the rest! - rode the rest in a group of about 8 or so for the miles and spent most of it trying to avoid the smelly bloke!
gonna give dundrod a miss tonight and ride wed and thurs instead!
